BirchBox Beauty Sample Review

Processed with MOLDIV

If you are a product lover or collector, beauty subscriptions are an affordable way to sample different products before you make the mistake in buying the full-size and hating it. Since there are so many beauty subscriptions to choose from now, this can also make it difficult when selecting the right subscription that is best for you.  Which is why I chose two.  I had always heard good reviews on the Birchbox subscription, so I decided to give it a try.  The second subscription I started was Goodbeing. I will give a review on the Goodbeing box as soon as I receive it.  The process with both involves answering a series of questions to determine your skin and hair type, makeup color palettes, and other beauty habits.  All of your answers are saved in your profile, which determines what types of samples are mailed to you each month.  Usually you get to pick out one of your samples based on a selection of products that are provided.  Now let’s take a closer look at each of the samples.

Air Repair – Complexion Boosting Moisturizer– This is a face and neck cream.  The sample size sent is 7 ml/.24 fl oz.  The full-size is 59 ml/2 fl oz and retails for about $20.  You can use this cream in the day or night.  Although I haven’t tried it because I am on skin regimen that I don’t want to interfere with at the moment. I do like that is product contains green tea, and is Mineral Oil-free, labeled paraben-free and ethyl alcohol-free.  I will definitely keep this product to sample at a later date.

Beauty Protector – Protect & Detangle – This is a spray used after you shampoo, condition, and hair is towel dried.  I sprayed the bottle on a white napkin, I didn’t like that it was red, I don’t know what that is about.  I do like this product is paraben and sulfate free.  The sample size sent is no more that 2 oz., the full size is 8 oz. and retails for $23.50.  I don’t use any heat on my hair anyways, but I may still try this product out.

Laura Geller – Color Luster Lip Gloss– This moisturizing lip gloss was one item that I actually liked. The color is called “Cookie Dough” and is definitely in the family of lip glosses I would normally wear.  I would wear this over a similar lipstick to give that shine because as a standalone, you won’t notice the color.  The sample size sent is 3 ml/0.1 fl oz, the full-size is 0.21 oz and retails for $19.00.

Manna Kadar – The Day Dream Palette– This is a pearlized shadow that comes as part of larger palette.  The larger palette comes with 6 eyeshadows, 1 blush, 2 highlighters, and a contour shade.  This shadow can be used for an extra glow along your cheekbones, or I may use it as a highlighter along my brow.  This was another product that I did like and will continue to use.  The sample size is 3 g, the palette of course much larger.

Oribe – Apres Beach Wave & Shine Spray – This is a hair spray that is color-safe and is supposed to deliver beachy, textured waves.  I am not an aerosol product user, unless it’s sunscreen.  The Oribe collection is quite extensive, so although this product may not be something I would use, I am sure there is a product within this line that may work for me.  The sample size sent is 37 ml/1.0 oz., the full-size is 8.5 oz, and retails for $39.00.

Overall I wasn’t totally blown away with my first Birchbox, but I am willing to continue my membership in hopes that the samples will get better.  At least for the products that I don’t use I can probably reuse them as stocking stuffers for Christmas. (Shhh.. don’t tell anyone)
